Families resemble molecules. Some are hard to break, some with whiff. Some families are the centerpiece of one's whole life, others are the bane of its existence. Some people are born, live and die in the same house, others float like a wind leaf, some people bond friendships that have unfolded as their lives unfold over the last decades, others transit or daisy-chain friends. I don't think that there is a universal saying about family and friends here. It's just the luck of the draw, and what you put into relationships like that. I love my brothers and sister but some of them do not LIKE. I like my friends from the past and present and I can't see the problem with regular meetings.
