Although northern lights are more common in autumn and spring, the reason for this is not fully explained. The increased magnetic relationship between the Sun and Earth in the equinox periods may be related to geometry. Because of its axis tilted 23 degrees, the Earth's magnetic pole regions move back and forth relative to the Sun. In the times of the Equinox, the magnetic field of the Earth reaches the most appropriate position to interact with the Sun the most. Thus, an opening is formed that allows solar winds to reach the inner parts of the magnetosphere.
