Is it OK to listen to music while studying?
1 Answer
It is known that listening to music positively affects students' emotional state and reduces the level of stress and anxiety. However, some of the studies on its effects on cognitive abilities show that listening to music improves cognitive performance, while others show that it may have a negative effect especially in situations that require concentration. This may be because the effects of listening to music on cognitive abilities vary depending on the type of music listened, the sound level, the character characteristics of the people and the age. For example, a study compared the competency of participants to remember and understand what they learned while listening to pop music and in a music-free environment, and it was understood that cognitive abilities of introverted people were more negatively affected when compared to outward-looking people.
