On May 24, 1844, Samuel F. B. Morse sent his first telegram message, "What hath God wrought?" from Washinton to the B&O Railways warehouse in Baltimore. The sentence is taken from the Bible (23:23) and is not actually written to make a deep sense. Annie Ellsworth, the little daughter of Morse's close friend, chose what to write in the message. It refers to that verse of Bible:

23 There is no divination against Jacob,
no evil omens against Israel.
It will now be said of Jacob
and of Israel, 'See what God has done!'
