This event, which we call tingling, occurs when we are in an unusual position for a long time. Arteries supply the nerves with oxygen and glucose. When pressure is applied on the nerves in our limbs, the arteries become compressed and cannot deliver enough blood to the nerves. This condition, called “falling asleep”, makes our limbs numb. When the pressure on the limb is removed, blood circulation begins to return to normal and the limb reacts. In this process, we feel as if a lot of ants are walking on our hands or feet. This event, which takes place in the nerves other than the brain and spinal cord, continues by keeping our hand or foot in the normal position until blood circulation is balanced and the vessels become old. This event, which usually takes place in the hands and feet, sometimes occurs in the arms.
