The source of most of the natural pearls, which have been used by humans as a precious jewel, are seafood clams. Oysters are shellfish living in the sea, located in the molluscs branch.

The fact that the pearl forms inside the oyster is actually the result of some kind of self-protection mechanism of the oyster. A grain of sand or any particle penetrating through its shells is perceived by the oyster as a foreign substance. In order to protect itself, Oyster begins to wrap this foreign substance with a hard, solid, strong and shiny mother of pearl mineral called “mother of pearl”. This foreign substance, which is covered with more psoriasis over time, eventually turns into a bright and hard stone. This stone is called pearl.

Psoriasis mineral is normally produced by oyster to protect the inner layer of the shell and consists of a type of calcium carbonate crystal called aragonite. In addition to creating pearls, mother of pearl gives color to the inner layer of the oyster shell.
